Notley Tythe Barn Weddings — Page 1
I've lost count of how many times I've photographed weddings at Notley Tythe Barn. And I still get that same feeling every time I turn off the road and see those ancient stone buildings — a kind of quiet excitement, like something really good is about to happen. I genuinely love this place.
It's near Thame in Oxfordshire, and it has a character that's completely its own. Old stone, a beautiful dovecote sitting in the meadow, open skies, and this particular quality of afternoon light that comes through the barn doors and makes everything look golden. I've never once arrived here and thought "oh, not this place again." It's always the opposite.

The ceremony barn is one of the most beautiful spaces I've ever worked in. Exposed stone walls, soft natural light, that particular stillness you only get in very old buildings. Couples always look completely at home in it — relaxed and present in a way that makes everything easier. I've photographed Notley Tythe Barn ceremonies in every season and every kind of weather, and it always delivers.
Summer evenings when the light turns golden and warm. Crisp autumn mornings when the air smells of woodsmoke and the trees are just starting to turn. Winter days with frost on the stone outside and candles glowing inside. Every single one has been different. Every single one has been beautiful. If you're getting married here in autumn or winter, honestly — the light and atmosphere are something really special.
What I love most is how naturally the day flows from one space to the next. The ceremony barn leads to the courtyard, the courtyard opens to the meadow, the meadow wraps around to the reception. There's always somewhere beautiful to be, and the photographs just keep coming. I never have to go looking for a good shot at Notley Tythe Barn. They just happen.
Portrait time here is always one of my favourite parts of the day. I keep it short — usually around twenty minutes, just a gentle wander through the grounds. The dovecote is one of the most iconic backdrops at any wedding venue I work at. I've photographed hundreds of couples in front of it and it genuinely never gets old. The stone, the proportions, the way it sits in the landscape. It's just perfect.
I don't direct much during portraits. I walk with you, talk with you, and wait for the real moments. The best photographs from any Notley Tythe Barn wedding aren't the posed ones — they're the ones where you've forgotten I'm there. Laughing at something. Looking at each other. Just walking hand in hand through the meadow with the dovecote behind you and the open sky above.
If you're planning a Notley Tythe Barn wedding and you'd like to talk about photography, I'd really love to hear from you. I'm here a lot. I know every corner of it, every light, every season. It would be a genuine honour to photograph your day here.
