The grounds at Notley Tythe Barn are extraordinary for portraits. The meadow, the dovecote, the stone walls, the long gravel paths lined with cypress trees, the wildflower borders — wherever you turn, there's a beautiful backdrop waiting. I've been photographing couples here for years and I still find new spots every time. That's rare. Most venues, you've seen everything after a few weddings. Not here.

I keep portrait time short and relaxed — usually around twenty minutes, just a gentle wander. I don't direct much. I walk with you, talk with you, and wait for the real moments. The photographs that come from those twenty minutes are always some of the best of the whole day. Natural, warm, completely you. Not stiff. Not posed. Just two people who love each other, in one of the most beautiful settings in Oxfordshire.

The bridal party photographs at Notley Tythe Barn are always some of my favourites too. The colours of the dresses against the ancient stone and the greenery. The laughter and the closeness between friends who've known each other for years. These are the photographs that bridesmaids frame and keep. I always make time for them.

The reception room at Notley Tythe Barn is stunning. Long tables, gorgeous centrepieces, fairy lights strung between the beams. I always make time to photograph the room before guests come in, when everything is perfectly set and the light is at its most beautiful. Those empty-room shots are always some of my favourites — there's something about a beautifully dressed wedding table that I never get tired of photographing.

And then there's the donkey. I've photographed so many couples with the Notley Tythe Barn donkey over the years and it always produces the most joyful, natural photographs. There's something about animals at weddings that just makes everyone relax and smile — and this particular donkey has a real talent for stealing the show. Guests absolutely love it.

What makes Notley Tythe Barn so special as a photography venue is the sheer variety it offers. In the space of a single afternoon you can photograph in the ceremony barn, the courtyard, the meadow, the dovecote, the reception room, and the gardens. Every space has its own character and its own light. Together they give you an extraordinary range of photographs from a single day.

The meadow at Notley Tythe Barn is one of my favourite portrait locations anywhere in the country. In summer it's lush and green with long grass and wildflowers. In autumn it turns golden. In winter it has this beautiful stillness. I've photographed couples there in all seasons and the results are always stunning — the dovecote in the background, the open sky above, two people completely lost in each other.

I always tell couples to just be themselves during portrait time. Don't worry about where to put your hands or which way to look. Just walk together, talk to each other, and let me do the rest. The best Notley Tythe Barn wedding photographs are the ones where you've completely forgotten I'm there — and those are the ones you'll still love in thirty years.

If you're planning your Notley Tythe Barn wedding and you'd like to talk about photography, I'd love to hear from you. I photograph here regularly throughout the year, I know every corner of this venue, and I'd be honoured to be your photographer. I'm currently offering 20% off autumn and winter Notley Tythe Barn packages and 15% off Monday to Friday bookings.
