Wedding Photography at Rackleys Chiltern Hills

If you’re getting married at Rackleys Chiltern Hills, you’ve picked somewhere I genuinely love photographing. There’s something about the venue and the surrounding Chiltern countryside that makes it such a lovely place for a wedding.

I’m Vanessa, the person behind Crimson Sky Photography, and I’ve been photographing weddings for over 15 years. In that time, I’ve photographed more than 500 weddings, and Rackleys is one of those venues I’m always happy to see pop up in my diary.

As a wedding photographer Rackleys Chiltern Hills, I’m not there to spend your whole wedding lining people up and telling everyone where to stand. I much prefer to let things happen naturally and photograph the bits you might otherwise miss.

I really do love Rackleys

I’ve photographed a number of weddings at Rackleys, and I love the variety it gives you.

The barn is beautiful, but it’s the whole setting that I really like. There are lovely areas around the venue, the Chiltern countryside makes a gorgeous backdrop and, depending on the time of year, the light can be absolutely lovely.

Having photographed weddings there also means I know the venue well. I have a good idea of where I can get lovely photographs, where the light works best and when it’s worth taking you outside for a few minutes.

That doesn’t mean every wedding gets photographed in exactly the same way, though. Your wedding will be different, and that’s how it should be.

My style is very relaxed

If you’re looking for lots of formal photographs with everyone standing in rows, I’m probably not the photographer for you.

I’m much more interested in what actually happens.

Your mum laughing while she’s helping you get ready. Your dad seeing you for the first time. Your bridesmaids getting emotional. Your friends on the dance floor. Your partner looking at you when they think you’re not watching.

Those are the photographs I love.

As a wedding photographer Rackleys Chiltern Hills, I’ll spend a lot of the day simply watching what’s happening around me. I’m there, but I don’t want to be in the middle of everything.

You don’t have to know how to pose

I hear this quite a lot from couples:

“We’re really awkward in photographs.”

Honestly, you’re not alone.

Most people aren’t models and most couples don’t know what to do when someone points a camera at them. You really don’t need to.

When we do photographs of just the two of you, I’ll give you some gentle direction. I’ll tell you where to stand or suggest something to do, but I’m not going to spend half an hour making you pose in ridiculous positions.

Usually, once you stop thinking about the camera, the photographs become much more natural.

I want your photographs to look like you

My editing style is natural, with true colours and timeless edits.

I’m not a fan of changing the colours of everything just because a particular preset happens to be fashionable at the moment. Your dress should look white, your flowers should look like the flowers you chose and the beautiful surroundings at Rackleys should still look like Rackleys.

Years from now, I want you to look through your wedding photographs and still love them.

That’s really important to me.

The little things matter too

One of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer Rackleys Chiltern Hills is that I’m not just looking for the obvious photographs.

Of course, I’ll photograph you walking down the aisle, your first kiss and the group photographs.

But I’m also looking for everything happening around those big moments.

A friend wiping away a tear. Your dad trying not to cry. Someone laughing during the speeches. Your grandparents chatting together. Your best friend giving you a massive hug.

Quite often, those are the photographs that become favourites.

I’ll give you some time together too

Although I’m very documentary in the way I photograph weddings, I do think it’s worth taking a little time away from everyone.

It doesn’t have to be a big formal photoshoot.

We can simply wander around the venue together for a few minutes, have a chat and take some photographs while you’re enjoying a little bit of peace and quiet.

You’ll probably have spent most of the day surrounded by people, so it’s actually quite nice to have those few minutes together.

And yes, I’ll take photographs while you’re doing it!

Over 500 weddings later…

I’ve been doing this for more than 15 years now and have photographed over 500 weddings.

You’d think after all those weddings they might start to feel the same, but they really don’t.

Every couple is different. Every family is different. Every venue is different. Even when I know a venue well, the wedding itself can be completely different from the one I photographed there before.

That’s one of the reasons I still love wedding photography.

I never quite know what the day is going to bring.

I like getting to know my couples a little before the wedding. Not in a formal, businessy sort of way, but because it makes such a difference on the day.

If we’ve chatted beforehand, you’ll hopefully feel much more comfortable when I turn up with my cameras.

I want you to feel like you know me rather than feeling like a stranger has arrived with a camera.

Rackleys weddings in autumn and winter

I also think Rackleys looks gorgeous at different times of the year.

Autumn brings all those lovely changing colours, while winter weddings have their own cosy feel and can make the most of the warm atmosphere inside the barn.
